At bonus time no one can hear you scream by David Charters

The rules and morale are different during Bonus Time; anything goes as long as it ensures a better bonus than everyone else

Title: At bonus time no one can hear you scream

Author: David Charters

The story is fast paced, incredibly funny and sometimes probably a bit too honest!

Dave Hart is worried about his annual bonus and we follow him during the last two months leading up to the Big Announcement. During Bonus Time the rules are different and people all behave very differently compared to other times of the year. A deal clinched at this time of year is worth much more, than say a deal in March (which is when Dave Hart last had a deal close).

Charters gives us an incredible funny insight into what we'd hope are the worst possible personalities and companies occupying the Square Mile (London's financial district).

Considering that Charters has been working as an investment banker, one wonders how many of his former colleagues recognise themselves or others in Dave Hart and the other characters in the book.

Books by the author

  • At Bonus Time, No One Can Hear You Scream
  • Trust Me I'm a Banker
  • The Ego Has Landed
  • Where Egos Dare
  • The Ego's Nest
  • No Tears (short story collection)

At the time of me downloading this book for my Kindle, it was the same price to get the boxset of the first three books as getting only the first book in the series. I may have downloaded the second boxset too....

Boxset 1 / Omnibus I: download from Amazon

Boxset 2 / Omnibus II: download from Amazon

Hard Power, by J.B. Turner (Jon Reznick #12)

Action, intrigue, and some politics mixed into another fab Jon Reznick thriller. This is the twelfth in the series but it can be read as a standalone.  This time it's Jon's go-to hacker and computer genius Trevelle that's in trouble. Trevelle contacts Jon to ask for help after his Chinese girl friend fell / got pushed into the tracks. A parallell legal system with Chinese police station is revealed and it all feels very close to a possible real situation which makes the story even better.  To find the culprits, the relationship between Martha (FBI) and Jon is tested yet again in this story - but this time it's Martha's career that's at stake. With the pressure piling up, will she be loyal to Jon or look after herself first?  Highly recommended. The Jon Reznick thrillers are available on Kindle Unlimited and you may as well subscribe for a month or so, to read them all! Hard Power will be published on 12 March 2024, but can be preordered now. #HardPower #NetGalle...

What started as pretend, soon turns real and as Calliope and Alessandro's relationship deepens, they find themselves caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse involving secrets, betrayal, and a deadly threat to their lives.  Great mixture of romantic suspense, strong characters, intense plot twists, and a thrilling storyline, The characters are well-developed and relatable. A fab combination of romance, danger, and family drama, but at times quite dark, with themes of violence and betrayal.  "She’s the kind of friend that points out your crown is slipping, not quietly helps fix it."

Big Bad Boss: Midnight, by Renee Rose and Lee Savino

First things first: This book ends with a cliff hanger and after getting over that frustration, it leaves you wanting to hurry up the authors to publish the next one, and the one after that in this Werewolves of Wall Street trilogy. Brick, the lead male, is the stereotypical billionaire a-hole, going through assistants quicker than he changes his underwear - well, that's until Madison comes along and puts him in his place. She's bright, sassy and knows what she wants - enough money to pay her brother's tuition fees and to do some under cover research.   Big Bad Boss: Midnight is an amazingly well written and captivating shifter story mixing hotness and business; a shame it ended with a cliffhanger. It's publishing tomorrow 29 February 2024. #BigBadBoss #NetGalley
