The Walker Brothers series by J.S. Scott

Great 'switch off the brain' series to escape from the real world for a while

There are three books in the Walker Brothers series; Release! (book 1; Trace), Player! (book 2; Sebastian) and Damaged! (book 3; Dane)

I had not read the The Billionaire's Obsession series which according to the book blurb on Amazon, this is a spin-off from.

Author: J. S. Scott

Release!

In the first book of the series, Release!, we are introduced to the oldest brother Trace. The story jumps between present and past. A past where there was a plane crash with Trace's brother Dane, their father, and his new wife. Trace and his other brother Sebastian should have been on that flight; and they are still dealing with survivors' guilt.

Eva is down to her last penny and enters Trace's office to beg for a job in any of the many companies that the Walker family business runs. Trace thinks she has been sent by his cousin for a very special job that he is looking to fill, that of being his fake fiancé for the holiday season.

It'll make you smile, even laugh, perhaps shed a tear and sometimes make you annoyed with both Trace and Eva but also his ex.

This was a quick and easy read, with it's school book typical plot line of 'poor girl' meets 'rich boy' it was a perfect 'switch off the brain' book on an 'escape from the boredom of lockdown' day. Don't expect it to leave any lasting impressions, but rather use it as an enjoyable escape from the day.

Player!

The second book in the series, Player!, is middle brother Sebastian's story. His way of dealing with the death of his father and the life altering injuries of his younger brother was by turning into a player, never saying no to party, drinks, drugs or women. When we join Sebastian he is trying to get his life back and he re-joins Trace at the helm of the family company.

His wild past and reputation follows him, but he is determined to focus on work and to establish a green energy division at the company. His focus soon turns to Paige, the new junior attorney, who is less than impressed with his interest in her. She gives him a really hard time (literally) as she turns him down to focus on her long term plan rather than get involved in any distractions.

Again, this story is captivating and intriguing enough to make another few hours of the day disappear without one realising.

Damaged!

Third book in the series takes us to the secluded life of Dane, the youngest brother in the family. After the plane crash, with scars all over his body, his confidence reached rock bottom and he decided to escape to a private island in the Bahamas. He rarely interacts face to face with anyone but instead focuses on his very lucrative art career. Kenzie is brought on by Trace and Sebastian to be Dane's assistant; it's just that they never told Dane that he'll have company in his solitude.

All in all a good series of books to escape reality for a while; well developed relatable characters, all with different traits and different ways of coping with their challenging pasts; a flowing story line between the three books and a feel good ending to each separate book as well as the series.

Den som dödade helvetets änglar by Jan Guillou

"Den som dödade helvetets änglar by Jan Guillou" - freely translated as " The one who killed the angels in hell". A bit late to reading this, but what a treat!!!  His language is beautiful, the connections to true events and living people are spot on, and the criticism of governments thought-provoking and necessary in a democratic-ish society.  Written in a completely different style to his other Hamilton and Ponti books i loved this one! I’ve already got the next one downloaded and will hopefully be in for another treat.  This book is so far only available in Swedish - unfortunately similar to most of Guillou's fabulous books!
