A Litter of Bones by JD Kirk

Logan’s face darkened. “No, Constable, it’s not possible that he wasn’t responsible for killing those boys. I know, because I was there. I saw what he’d done.

Title: A Litter of Bones

Author: JD Kirk

The author blurb states that JD Kirk loves the Highlands, crime thrillers, and cats; but after reading the book, the latter is not apparent!

DCI Jack Logan is part of Glasgow's Major Investigations Team and when a boy has disappeared in similar way to one of Logan's old cases, he's brought onboard to solve the crime.

It is a fast paced story, with clever twists and turns, characters who aren't what they appear to be, stereotypical old school police behaviours and a sense of humour thrown in. The story is definitely not politically correct in language or views (or cats!), but let's face it, neither is life in general.

All in all an enjoyable read and I'm pleased to see that the tenth (!!) book in the series was released just last month (Feb 2021) so Kirk may still have more coming.  The book is published by Zertec Media, run by Barry Hutchison (Space Team, sci-fi) and his wife Fiona. At the time of writing this the whole series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

The Pucking Proposal by Lauren Landish

Pre-game rituals must be taken seriously, even when they seem completely outrageous - and indecent!  Hilariously believable.  Hockey trope. Brother's best friend. Playing to win. Pub Date: 18 Feb 2025 Part of Maple Creek series #ThePuckingProposal #NetGalley

Den som dödade helvetets änglar by Jan Guillou

"Den som dödade helvetets änglar by Jan Guillou" - freely translated as " The one who killed the angels in hell". A bit late to reading this, but what a treat!!!  His language is beautiful, the connections to true events and living people are spot on, and the criticism of governments thought-provoking and necessary in a democratic-ish society.  Written in a completely different style to his other Hamilton and Ponti books i loved this one! I’ve already got the next one downloaded and will hopefully be in for another treat.  This book is so far only available in Swedish - unfortunately similar to most of Guillou's fabulous books!
