A Litter of Bones by JD Kirk

Logan’s face darkened. “No, Constable, it’s not possible that he wasn’t responsible for killing those boys. I know, because I was there. I saw what he’d done.

Title: A Litter of Bones

Author: JD Kirk

The author blurb states that JD Kirk loves the Highlands, crime thrillers, and cats; but after reading the book, the latter is not apparent!

DCI Jack Logan is part of Glasgow's Major Investigations Team and when a boy has disappeared in similar way to one of Logan's old cases, he's brought onboard to solve the crime.

It is a fast paced story, with clever twists and turns, characters who aren't what they appear to be, stereotypical old school police behaviours and a sense of humour thrown in. The story is definitely not politically correct in language or views (or cats!), but let's face it, neither is life in general.

All in all an enjoyable read and I'm pleased to see that the tenth (!!) book in the series was released just last month (Feb 2021) so Kirk may still have more coming.  The book is published by Zertec Media, run by Barry Hutchison (Space Team, sci-fi) and his wife Fiona. At the time of writing this the whole series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

Hard Power, by J.B. Turner (Jon Reznick #12)

Action, intrigue, and some politics mixed into another fab Jon Reznick thriller. This is the twelfth in the series but it can be read as a standalone.  This time it's Jon's go-to hacker and computer genius Trevelle that's in trouble. Trevelle contacts Jon to ask for help after his Chinese girl friend fell / got pushed into the tracks. A parallell legal system with Chinese police station is revealed and it all feels very close to a possible real situation which makes the story even better.  To find the culprits, the relationship between Martha (FBI) and Jon is tested yet again in this story - but this time it's Martha's career that's at stake. With the pressure piling up, will she be loyal to Jon or look after herself first?  Highly recommended. The Jon Reznick thrillers are available on Kindle Unlimited and you may as well subscribe for a month or so, to read them all! Hard Power will be published on 12 March 2024, but can be preordered now. #HardPower #NetGalle...

Despite her efforts to live a normal life as a teacher and singer in Nashville, her father's dying wish forces her back into the mafia lifestyle. What started as pretend, soon turns real and as Calliope and Alessandro's relationship deepens, they find themselves caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse involving secrets, betrayal, and a deadly threat to their lives.  Great mixture of romantic suspense, strong characters, intense plot twists, and a thrilling storyline, The characters are well-developed and relatable. A fab combination of romance, danger, and family drama, but at times quite dark, with themes of violence and betrayal.  "She’s the kind of friend that points out your crown is slipping, not quietly helps fix it."

Big Bad Boss: Midnight, by Renee Rose and Lee Savino

First things first: This book ends with a cliff hanger and after getting over that frustration, it leaves you wanting to hurry up the authors to publish the next one, and the one after that in this Werewolves of Wall Street trilogy. Brick, the lead male, is the stereotypical billionaire a-hole, going through assistants quicker than he changes his underwear - well, that's until Madison comes along and puts him in his place. She's bright, sassy and knows what she wants - enough money to pay her brother's tuition fees and to do some under cover research.   Big Bad Boss: Midnight is an amazingly well written and captivating shifter story mixing hotness and business; a shame it ended with a cliffhanger. It's publishing tomorrow 29 February 2024. #BigBadBoss #NetGalley
