"We’re on a financial Titanic"
Title: Smart bitches buy bitcoin
Authors: Branden LaNette and Andrea Waltz
OK, first things first... the use of the word 'bitches' didn't sit well with me, at all, but the authors explained they used it to describe an empowered, assertive woman and that we should think of a female wolf (not dog), hmmmm... unfortunately this makes me think of the film The Wolf of Wall Street which did not portray women as empowered or assertive!
Let's move on... My main message after having read this book - BUY IT AND READ IT! The book is full of useful facts, all presented in an engaging and fun way - yes, a book on finance which is actually enjoyable to read and easy to understand!
In my view understanding the basics of bitcoin (and the wider topic of personal finances) should be taught at school, as part of the general knowledge we all should have. Bitcoin is not going away and it may well be the key to our chance of true freedom and happiness.
"cutting coupons, canceling Netflix the day before it renews, and using the cheapest moisturizer at Walgreens are decent strategies but they are not enough"
Rather depressingly LaNette and Waltz explain that working in a traditional job and getting paid a salary just means that "every time your employer pays you in currency, that currency is like an ice cube that starts melting that very day. The longer you wait to spend it, the less it buys, because prices keep going up."
Bitcoin has historically outperformed other invenstment opportunities like stocks and commodities including gold. We have seen that Bitcoin has become the preference for Gen Xers and Millennials; but gold still remains the overall preference across all age groups.
The book include information on what Bitcoin is, how to get started with Bitcoin, some common terms including 'hodling' (yes that's the spelling!), as well as how to store your Bitcoin.
So, to follow up on the three things LaNette and Waltz hoped that they achieved with the book;
- Yes, I am convinced the stock market is crashing and inflation is coming, and that I'll be left to fend for myself without real support from the authorities.
- Yes, I am aware of Bitcoin and how it can provide a life raft.
- Yes, sort of. I am considering buying Bitcoin, but the checkbook is not yet out (or should that be my bank transfer details?) as I am going to do some wider research into cryptocurrencies and the various buy options / exchange sites before jumping in.
Disclaimer: Please note that neither the authors, nor I are financial advisers, and if you do decide to invest, your investment may go down as well as up, and historic result is not a prediction of future developments. You get the point, do your research and proceed at your own risk!
