Tam DeRudder Jackson - Books 3 and 4 in the Balefire series

Book 3: Wild for me

This is Dakota and Annabelle's story. It all started with a scorching hot one-night stand two years ago after a Balefire concert. It also ended there when Annabelle left Dakota's room. Both of them have been reliving that night, but never made contact with each other. At the wedding rehearsal of Jack and Clio (who we met in Book 1) Dakota and Annabelle see each other again and the story takes off from there.

Grumpy Garrett is back causing tension and stirring things up in his usual way.

Quick and easy read allowing you to escape for a few hours.

Book 4: Hot for me

Finally Adam Tron gets to meet a girl, or rather a strong willed independent woman matching him in all areas. A superstar in her own rights, Cristy joins Balefire on their tour and things get hot.

Grumpy Garrett is back and we also meet Cristy's manager Gretchen who's keeping a tight leash on her, causing enormous frustrations for Adam Tron.

Again an enjoyable easy flowing read by DeRudder Jackson completing the story of the four band members of Balefire. I thought this would be the last in the series, or possibly followed by a 'retrospective and now' story about their first drummer, but apparently their manager Garrett is getting his own story in Book 5.

PS. There is a Book 5

Book 5, Stay with me, is due in the autumn/fall of 2022 and this is described as Garrett's redemption. Not sure he deserves a book on his own but let's see...

Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari

Governments manage countries, but they don't lead them. More and more power is with corporations, corporations who are only answering to their share holders Title: Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow Author: Yuval Noah Harari ' Sapiens showed us where we came from. In uncertain times, Homo Deus shows us where we're going' Looking through my Kindle highlights from this book, which I read back in 2017 when it was first released, I am instantly reminded of the brilliance that is Harari. He has a way of bringing up crucial ideas and thoughts and then presenting them in an easily accessible way. This is a great, thought-provoking book encouraging us to question and re-think the world around us. Take for example Harari's comment about the possibility of logical bombs already included in codes of our key infrastructure assets. What happens when 'the baddies' (people, corporations or even countries) decides to access these codes and modify them? Many...

Reclaiming Mni Sota by Colin Mustful

This is a fascinating alternate history of the US - Dakota War of 1862. Historic events are cleverly used to tell the stories of Samuel (the white man) and Waabi (the native Ojibwe) who are growing up and finding out how the world works and how they fit in. Waabi is striving to protect his homeland and maintaining his traditions, and Samuel is trying to create a life of freedom, prosperity, and abundance with his family by relocating from Vermont to Minnesota to settle on land previously used by the Ojibwe and rivalling groups. Informative, eye-opening and thought-provoking, especially for someone like me who's never heard about this part of American history as it just wasn't part of my European school curriculum. Reclaiming Mni Sota, an Alternate History of the U.S. - Dakota War of 1862, by Colin Mustful will be published on 10 October 2023, but can be pre-ordered now.
