The Bridges and Bitters series by Lainey Davis - FOUR books!

Four amazing books, all with strong female leads and somewhat grumpy male partners.

The women in the Bridges and Bitters series form a tight-knit family-by-choice, and they are fiercely loyal to each other; mess with one, and you mess with them all. They gather in Esther's bar to support one another's goals; whether those are related to career, friendships, or love. The girls' WhatsApp group is called FOOF, which stands for Fresh Out Of F**ks, and it's frightfully busy when something is happening...

I have read these books as they have been published and thoroughly enjoyed them all! Now is your chance to enter the world of Sam, Chloe, Esther and Piper.

Book 4: LAST CALL will be available on 29 June 2023, the others are available now.

Book 1: FIREBALL

Sam is the CEO of a very successful tech startup and she is trying to make amends with AJ, a middle school science teacher focusing on creating opportunities for his students - including a visit to Sam's flashy tech startup.

Fab mixture of different upbringings, social classes, religions and also a nod to the LGBTQI+ community with the inclusion of the non-binary character Shane; let's hope this becomes mainstream so I don't even feel the need to mention it in a review!

Book 2: LIQUID COURAGE

This is Chloe's story. Marriage in crisis story, with a happy ending! Warm, natural and believable. A story straight from life which leaves you with hope, hope that things can be sorted if there is willingness.  I also liked the insight we get into Chloe's secret writing life.

Book 3: SPEED RAIL

Piper is realising her dream thanks to her FOOF friends providing moral and financial support. Running Piper Fitters, she focuses on providing fitness opportunities and lifestyle advice to busy mums. To fit in with their schedules, she offers classes in her new venue before the mums have to go back home and wake up their children to get them ready for school. Her neighbour is not too happy when he is woken up by the loud excises as he is trying to record his voice overs before his daughter wakes up.

Book 4: LAST CALL

Finally time to get Esther's story; and what a STORY! Starting out as a marriage of convenience - money to start a business in exchange for the right to stay in the US and citizenship, Esther and Koa don't spend much time together as he is travelling the country as a rugby coach. Returning to Pittsburgh they realise that this was probably more than a business transaction!

The Stag Brothers and the Brady Family

If you haven't yet read any of the books in the Bridges and Bitters series, you may like to start with the the BRADY FAMILY or even the STAG BROTHERS series; both were originally intended to be read before the Bridges and Bitters series.

The Pucking Proposal by Lauren Landish

Pre-game rituals must be taken seriously, even when they seem completely outrageous - and indecent!  Hilariously believable.  Hockey trope. Brother's best friend. Playing to win. Pub Date: 18 Feb 2025 Part of Maple Creek series #ThePuckingProposal #NetGalley

Den som dödade helvetets änglar by Jan Guillou

"Den som dödade helvetets änglar by Jan Guillou" - freely translated as " The one who killed the angels in hell". A bit late to reading this, but what a treat!!!  His language is beautiful, the connections to true events and living people are spot on, and the criticism of governments thought-provoking and necessary in a democratic-ish society.  Written in a completely different style to his other Hamilton and Ponti books i loved this one! I’ve already got the next one downloaded and will hopefully be in for another treat.  This book is so far only available in Swedish - unfortunately similar to most of Guillou's fabulous books!
