The Secret Midwife by Soraya M Lane

Thought-provoking, gut wrenching and warm all in one! Inspired by real-life events during the second world war including the horrifying conditions of the concentration camp in Auschwitz, Lane has created a truly gripping story showing the strength of many unsung heros, and in this case especially a dedicated midwife Emilia and doctor Aleksy. The story is told partly based in London in 1995 and partly in the occupied Poland in 1942. The two story lines are beautifully woven together to one very strong and emotional plot.  The war is raging and Poland is occupied by the Germans. Working as a midwife Emilia is allowed to move around a bit more freely than others in her village. To her, a mother is a mother no matter what religious background they may have and as such she's putting herself in constant danger visiting also the many hidden Jewish families.  All is going well, until it isn't. Betrayal is the worst and she is suddenly on a packed train straight to Auschwitz. Due to he...

Love & Stilettos by Evelyn Lindell

Mia is a 28 year old widow who is moving back home and meeting up with her childhood best friend Mitch - or at least they were every June. Mitch's fiancee Lacey is having none of it and "weaves a web of manipulation and deceit so complicated that it’s hard to determine if she is the victim or the villain. Weirdly, I switched between rooting for Mia and then Lacey - Mia was annoyingly immature in many parts of the book and Lacey sort of comes across as more likeable a person.  #LoveStilettos #NetGalley

Kiss of the Silver Wolf by Sharon Buchbinder

Fantasy, sci-fi and magic mixed in with romance and some horror! Buchbinder has done her homework and we're treated to an intriguing and fast-paced story which I throughly enjoyed.  According to the authorities, both Charlene's parents committed suicide in a car accident. As a result, 24-year old Charlene is left to care for her brother Joey who is special needs. Unfortunately, as the accident was deemed suicide, there is no insurance money for Charlene to dig into to care for her brother.  Circumstance has it that her Aunt Jessie has left her an apple farm in Eden (Kentucky) - a place her mother always told her to stay well clear of. With money running out, Charlene hasn't really got any other option than to head to Eden.  Charlene lands herself a job driving a school bus for special needs children - all very similar to her brother. Work is made rather interesting as she is attracted to the owner of the company, Zach. As they days go by, Charlene slowly learns about Eden...

Mr Hook-up by Marni Mann

Looks like boys will be boys, and to help a group of them create a no-strings hook-up app aptly named Hooked. Usage if free for a limited period after which users have to provide their personal details including payment details. Drake creates a profile and finds a 100% match - something noone expected! Unknown to her, her 100% match Easton is one of the founders of the app. Their chemistry if off the charts. Hot. Hot. Hot. After the free period on the app, "Love" (her profile name) stops using it. As she never provided her personal details, there is no way for Easton, even as the founder, to find out who she is. Roll forward five years and they meet again. Somewhat predictable, but still an enjoyable a read!! #MrHookup #NetGalley

The Royal by Susan Stoker

The Royal is the second book in the Game of Chance series written by Susan Stoker . It is loosely based on Cinderella - evil step sister and step mum making life a living hell for Juniper following the death of her father. Step sister is set on finding a royal to marry and she has no qualms at using all tricks available. Unfortunately she's got her sights set on the wrong man. He on the other hand, has his eyes set on Juniper.  In true Prince Charming fashion he sweeps Juniper off her feet and they start a new life together. Unfortunately the evil step mother and step sister have other plans and things turn rather dark for a while until good wins.  I believe this book would have more depth if I had read the first book in the series, The Protector, but as this was a Netgalley pick I hadn't. I suggest you do though! #TheRoyal #NetGalley
