How to Be a Digital Nomad by Kayla Ihrig

With 35 million (!) digital nomads who are living, working and exploring to the world it is apparent that you don't need to sacrifice your career to travel the world.  How to Be a Digital Nomad sets out strategies, and shares tips and advise on how to build build a successful career without having to be in a traditional office 9 to 5. Ihrig has created a fab handbook where she freely shares her own as well as other travellers' experience of a nomad lifestyle. The triangle of freedom: achieve freedom with regards to location, time and finances. Even if you're not planning on becoming a digital nomad, the book includes many great pointers on how to get the most out of any working life - office based or nomadic. It challenges the 'normal' we are used to, although what is 'normal' has definitely changed following COVID.  ‘No one regrets travelling’  Ihring also include practical check lists, e.g. back up your work, pack a vomit bag, don't impulse buy things,...

The Murder After the Night Before by Katy Brent

Amazingly well written, thoroughly developed plot and twists, and identifiable characters (although excessive drinking is never OK). Waking up so hungover that she doesn't even remember what happened last night at the company Christmas party, Molly is not having a great day - and it gets worse. She's trending on social media and she doesn't even remember doing what the video shows. Digging deeper into what happened, she realises that all is not as it seems. There is a murder to investigate and wrongs to make right. This is another great book by Katy Brent; full of unexpected twists and turns, shady characters, social media doing its worst and self-centred no-gooders pushing their own agenda. A worthy follow-up to 'How to kill men and get away with it' -  link to my review . The Murder After the Night Before by Katy Brent is due to be published on 1 February 2024. #TheMurderAftertheNightBefore #NetGalley

Life, Loss, and Puffins by Catherine Ryan Hyde

What an absolutely amazing book! Catherine Ryan Hyde must have had great fun writing this one, sharing  her longterm interest in astrophotography (I LOVE the cover!) and her exceptional research skills (and possibly personal experience?). With Ru only being 13 years old and having lived a rather sheltered life where everyone focused on how "freakishly smart" she was, she had done very few things girls her age would have done - making friends, finding hobbies, etc. When she's sent off to collage she befriends Gabriel (17 years old), who just like her has trouble making friends. they develop a solid sibling-like bond. Gabriel doesn't seem bothered by her intelligence but instead focuses on being her support, on teaching her about "normal" life. To escape being forced to live with her Aunt, Ru convinces Gabriel that they should take off on a road trip. Together they try to tick off as many items as possible from Ru's bucket list, including to see the Aureli...

Behind a closed door by J.D. Barker

Labelled as an erotical thriller, this book (and soon film apparently) is so, so much more!  It will play with your emotions, your sense of logic and what's right and wrong - when a game is just a game and shouldn't have real life consequences, or should it? How far would YOU go? For many who downloaded the Sugar and Spice app, they went all the way - all in an effort to win the ultimate prize. The tasks given out by the Sugar and Spice are carefully orchestrated so the players get roped in and are prepared to complete tasks which are subtly getting more and more borderline to what's allowed in the eye of the law - until it's waaaay past. Psychology and human greed at their best! Behind a closed door by J.D. Barker i scheduled to be released on 13 May 2024.  #BehindAClosedDoor #NetGalley

Island in the Sun by Katie Fforde

Cass has agreed to help her father out by taking on a photography project in the Caribbean Island of Dominica -- the 'simple' mission is to to use an old, hand-drawn map to find a rare stone carving, and to take photos of it. The island has recently been hit be a severe hurricane, leaving destruction in its wake and Cass find herself part of the rescue mission. She creates close bonds with some of the other members of the rescue mission, including her father's contact Ranulph who she travelled to the island with.  In true "romance novel tactic" they both doubt that the other ones is interested and misunderstandings develop to later be resolved. Entertaining, uplifting story of finding courage and love, with the added benefit of getting to know Dominica and life there - and finding out Fforde's connection to the island. This title will be published on 15 February 2024. #IslandintheSun #NetGalley

Flash Point by Logan Ryles

Flash Point is another brilliant book about Mason Sharpe! It's the fifth book in the series, but can be read even if you haven't read the others --but DO read them, as they are fab books, and you get more of the backstory, adding richness to the plot! In this instalment Mason is having some downtime when he meets Ralph, an older man looking for the woman he loves after meeting her online and becoming a Sugar Daddy of sorts to her. Ralph is deeply in love, but Mason suspects it's all an elaborate financial scam. Her death results in Ralph being accused of her murder, but Mason isn't buying it - Ralph is showing all signs of being deeply on love (Mason should know!) and he decides to investigate.  Enter the Italian mob, intrigue and deception - this intelligent thriller is another amazing Mason Sharpe book.  Flash Point by Logal Ryles is available now and included if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. #FlashPoint #NetGalley

Akmaral by Judith Lindbergh

Historical fiction at its best - an emotional and inspiring story about a strong woman and her influence on a whole tribe. As the nomads roamed the Asian steppes, in some tribes the women fought side by side as equals with men - at least until they got pregnant.  Akmaral loves her life training for battle from a young age, mastering horse riding as well as archery and fighting with spear and blade.  There is tense rivalry between her and the strongest man, Erzhan, and they can't seem to decide if they want to kill each other, or kiss... To protect their people, the must fight side by side, but further tension is created when they capture Timor, the leader of one of their attackers. Akmaral is mesmerised by Timor, but Erzhan does not trust him. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of a society where women and men fight together, where loyalty is a must for survival and where making peace with war is a must. Akmaral by Judith Lindbergh will be published on 7 May 2024. #Akmaral #NetGal...
