Airside by James Swallow

James Swallow has done it again! Anti hero Kevin has a REALLY BAD day and it's about to get even worse. His relationship with his daughter is at rock bottom, he's just lost a big deal and his business partner has cleared out the company leaving Kevin with nothing, stranded in a foreign country. To make it even worse, he stumbles on some cash and makes a bad decision, messing with the bad guys.  The fast paced, unexpected and clever story line makes this a thoroughly enjoyable, hard to put down book.  By the way, if you haven't yet read Nomad, Exile and the other books in the  Marc Dane series , go and do that NOW!    [ Link to Amazon ]  Thank you to NetGalley and Welbeck Publishing for allowing me to read this eARC. The book is due to be published on 26 May 2022, but you can pre-order your copy now.

Her Second Chance Cowboy by Mary Sue Jackson and Leslie North

I picked Her Second Chance Cowboy written by Mary Sue Jackson and Leslie North as I wanted a quick-no-intelligence-needed read in between my more factual and academic reads.  It fits the bill perfectly. Easy flowing text, the expected attraction and outcome between the two leads, some annoying brides maids (as is always the case at weddings), a sweet little girl and a HEA.  All in all an OK way to spend a few hours.  #HerSecondChanceCowboy #NetGalley

Beyond Pronouns by Tammy Plunkett

Tammy Plunkett has written an immensely important book about gender identification, the struggles families encounter and the joy of eventually getting it right and having a happy, confident and mature teenager as part of the family.  This is so much more than an "essential guide for parents of trans children"; it's a book for ALL adults, for all of us who find the whole vocabulary around cis gender, trans gender, gender fluid, gender queer, non-binary, etc confusing. Knowing the difference between the descriptions should be considered general knowledge, more so than who's who on Love Island !  It's shocking that she even has to point out that "Gender diversity is not a mental illness"!  She shares the journey they went on as a family when one of the children came out as transgender, how they all experienced a steep learning curve (the adults probably more so than the children!), how they lost a few friends along the way but made MANY more, and how there ...

Tam DeRudder Jackson - Books 3 and 4 in the Balefire series

Book 3: Wild for me  This is Dakota and Annabelle's story. It all started with a scorching hot one-night stand two years ago after a Balefire concert. It also ended there when Annabelle left Dakota's room. Both of them have been reliving that night, but never made contact with each other.  At the wedding rehearsal of Jack and Clio (who we met in Book 1) Dakota and Annabelle see each other again and the story takes off from there.  Grumpy Garrett is back causing tension and stirring things up in his usual way. Quick and easy read allowing you to escape for a few hours.  Link to Amazon to get your copy - click here Book 4: Hot for me Finally Adam Tron gets to meet a girl, or rather a strong willed independent woman matching him in all areas. A superstar in her own rights, Cristy joins Balefire on their tour and things get hot. Grumpy Garrett is back and we also meet Cristy's manager Gretchen who's keeping a tight leash on her, causing enormous frustrations for Adam Tro...

Knight Blind by Alice Bienia

An amazing debut book by Canadian Alice Bienia.  If I'd have to give it stars, I'd give it 5 stars as it's her first book, but as we know the PI genre is fiercely competitive so compared with other more established authors it's a very strong 3 stars. I do believe that Alice Bienia can reach the very top in this genre though! She's got the knowledge, writing skills, fantastic flow and the bright mind to pull this off.  I am looking forward to reading her next two books about Jorja Knight (and finding out if it'll be Azagora or Adan who makes a move first...), which I've spotted are available for sale on Amazon.  I marked two passages in this story; " a cat is a long-term commitment, not like a boyfriend " - I do wonder what prompted this, perhaps that's a story in itself?? " true happiness came from the simple moments in life " - so true, and still we chase for bigger and better, rather than being content with what we have and enjoying...

Hope on the Inside by Marie Bostwick

A fictional book about Hope Carpenter who has spent most of her life raising four children (all now flown the nest) and running the household whilst her husband Rick has been working. After Rick is strongly encouraged to take early retirement, the dynamics between Hope and Rick change. With the medical insurance expiring, Hope decides to look for paid work outside of the home and she manages to secure a teaching position at a local women's prison.  As she says,  “What’s motherhood besides a two-decade-long teaching gig?” To find out more about the story in this book, head over to Amazon or Goodreads as there are plenty of reviews. I, on the other hand, am more interested to share things that caught my eyes when reading this book and in true Marie Bostwick style, there are quite a few life lessons and nuggets of wisdom interspersed in the story. As my readers know by now, I like highlighting interesting, informative, fun, intriguing or even weird sections whilst reading. Below ...
