The Walker Brothers series by J.S. Scott

Great 'switch off the brain' series to escape from the real world for a while There are three books in the Walker Brothers series;  Release!  (book 1; Trace),  Player! (book 2; Sebastian) and Damaged! (book 3; Dane) I had not read the The Billionaire's Obsession series which according to the book blurb on Amazon, this is a spin-off from. Author: J. S. Scott Release! In the first book of the series, Release!, we are introduced to the oldest brother Trace. The story jumps between present and past. A past where there was a plane crash with Trace's brother Dane, their father, and his new wife. Trace and his other brother Sebastian should have been on that flight; and they are still dealing with survivors' guilt.  Eva is down to her last penny and enters Trace's office to beg for a job in any of the many companies that the Walker family business runs. Trace thinks she has been sent by his cousin for a very special job that he is looking to fill, that of being his fa...

The Goodbye Quilt by Susan Wiggs

"The journey to college is a rite of passage we mark as a joyous occasion, one we celebrate by buying luggage and books on how to build a fulfilling life. But really, if you ask any mother, she’ll tell you that deep down, we want to mark it as a loss, a funeral of sorts" Title:  The Goodbye Quilt   Author: Susan Wiggs This story is not really about quilting or a quilt as such, but more about what it represents to the two women in the story; Linda, the mother, and Molly, her daughter. We follow Linda and Molly as they are travelling across the United States to deliver Molly at college. We learn about Linda's worry of letting Molly fly the nest, but also her understanding that she must let Molly go and experience life on her own. Linda is also worried as she's doesn't yet know what she's supposed to be now, when she's no longer Molly's mum.  During the journey mother and daughter are bonding and realising a few truths about each other (and themselves!). ...

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Thankfully societal norms have moved on and what is portrayed as 'normal' almost 300 years ago is no longer acceptabel in the marriage bed Title: Outlander (book 1 in the series) Author: Diana Gabaldon This was an interesting first book in the Outlander series, but nowhere near as gripping as e.g. the Games of Thrones series. Saying that, I am intrigued enough to look forward to reading the second book to find out more about Claire and Jamie. I thoroughly enjoyed the historical elements Gabaldon has woven her story around and the many interesting characters she's introduced already in the first book. It's pure genius with the jump back in time 200 years to create a unique story and to allow characters to develop and grow.  I am however surprised at how relaxed Claire seems to be with being separated from her 'modern' husband and how quickly she accepts her 'historical' life and the expectations of how a woman 'should' behave and what they 's...

Our Family Quilt: The Fabric of Life by Rhonda Cratty

.. life always changes. It’s how we react to those changes that gauges if we are going to have an easy time or a hard time Title: Our Family Quilt: The Fabric of Life  (part of Kindle Unlimited) Author: Rhonda Cratty Expect lots of smiles with some tears thrown in for good measure.  The book may seem like a pure quilting story based on the title and cover, but it is full of life lessons, tips for over coming everyday challenges and believing in yourself, without making it another cringe worthy self-help book. Master quilter Grace and her grand daughter Audrey are creating a quilt recording the ups and downs of normal family life throughout generations. Grace cleverly uses every day situations to teach Audrey maths to help her find her "math way".  This book is the first of two, with the second called Our 12 quilts: The Fabric of Life .

The Barter System series by Shayne McClendon

You ask for nothing, expect nothing, and aren’t surprised when that’s exactly what you receive Title: The Barter System series , as listed below Author: Shayne McClendon THIS IS A TRULY EPIC SERIES!!! Riya O’Connell decides to write her dissertation on male sexuality and instead of studying books on the subject she decides to embark on her own real life research; a research which will leave her emotionally drained especially when she moves from one subject to another in her carefully planned journey. 13,000 applied to take part in her research and through various surveys and essays she's narrowed it down to eight subjects which she'll meet in real life to explore and understand their sexuality. Once you accept that there was a university which approved this type of research, it is one hell of a story that McClendon has created.  Lots of very strong characters are introduced throughout the series and many of them keep popping up in the latter books, so do take notice; Riya, Tawn...

Mister Black, Scarlett Red and Blackest Red by P.T. Michelle

A plan is only as good as the variables you can control. Multiple plans assure you’re prepared for the ones you can’t    Titles: Mister Black , Scarlett Red and Blackest Red (three different books) Author: P.T. Michelle These are the brilliant first three books in a Billionaire SEAL Story series, called In the Shadows .  The author has created a gripping and intricate story with Talia and Sebastian as the lead characters. Talia is an investigative journalist and Sebastian runs a security company.  Expect strong personalities and explosive chemistry combined with SEAL muscles and brain thrown in; in short these are great books. “The point I’m trying to make is, we can’t know the impact our choices will have on others’ lives, either right in front of us or down the road. All we can do is make the best decisions we can and hope the positive ripples far outweigh the negative ones.” The other books in the series There are currently ten books in this series by P.T. Michell...
