All That We Are by Mariah Stewart

All that we are is the third book in the Wyndham Beach series by New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and USA Today bestselling author Mariah Stewart. It can be read stand alone, although you may like to go back and read the previous two books too!

In this book we get to know Emma's story; how she's trying to find meaning in her life ten years after her husband, a banker in the local town, passed away.

Together with her two best friends Maggie and Lydia, friendships that have stretched half a decade, she tackles what life throws at her.

When some lovely cabins come up for sale in the town, her world famous son Chris secures them for his mother and this summer is the first time she's organising a residential for promising artists. Thankfully her friends are there to help her with all the planning and getting the cabins ready for the guests. An old acquaintance from years back adds some romance to the story.

This was an enjoyable beach read; perfect to disconnect the brain for a few hours.

Reclaiming Mni Sota by Colin Mustful

This is a fascinating alternate history of the US - Dakota War of 1862. Historic events are cleverly used to tell the stories of Samuel (the white man) and Waabi (the native Ojibwe) who are growing up and finding out how the world works and how they fit in. Waabi is striving to protect his homeland and maintaining his traditions, and Samuel is trying to create a life of freedom, prosperity, and abundance with his family by relocating from Vermont to Minnesota to settle on land previously used by the Ojibwe and rivalling groups. Informative, eye-opening and thought-provoking, especially for someone like me who's never heard about this part of American history as it just wasn't part of my European school curriculum. Bybee has written another fab book in the D'Angelos series - great holiday read, perhaps even more so if you're heading to Italy and love wine!
